HOW TO gain access to local drives in RDP

Often when you are connected to a computer in a Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) you need to have access to your local drives or local files.

HOW TO gain access to local drives in RDP?

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs (or Programs), point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Remote Desktop Connection.

  2. Click Show Options and then click the Local Resources tab.
  3. Click More under Local devices and resources.

  4. Select the check box next to Drives (you could select some drives clicking the plus sign to show detail data) then click OK.

  5. Click the General tab, Type the name of the Computer and the Username (with format Domain\Username) and then click Connect.
  6. Type your Password and then click OK.

Google Chrome poor resolution on Windows 8.1

To fix this issue I found two solutions, the first one has been marked as “Preferred” because can fix also multiple issues with other software, the second it’s “Easy” to apply. You can also apply both.

Solution (Preferred):
Download and install your video card and monitor drivers.

Solution (Easy):
Navigate into your user folder

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application

Right-click on chrome -> Properties -> Compatibility tab -> tick “Disable display scalling on high DPI settings” then restart Google Chrome.

Solution 1:

  1. go to Libraries in Windows Explorer
  2. right-click whichever folder gives you an error and select Delete
  3. right-click on the Libraries folder and select Restore Default Libraries

Solution 2:
Restore your system using a previous restore point.

I didn’t know how to capture menus and DropDown controls because when I click on the button New the control lost focus and closd automatically.

Open the Snippng Tool, click Cancel so that the toll will be still opened.
Then, when you want capture a menu or a drop down control activated, use Ctrl+PrtScn.

If you want capture a new one, press again New then Cancel and use Ctrl+PrtScn.

Solution:
Download and install the following official Touchpad driver, then restart the system.

This solution should work for the following DELL models:

  • Vostro 3560
  • Inspiron 15R 5520
  • Inspiron 15R SE 7520

Solution:
Click OK in the error message.

Then will appear the following message and click Yes
Word found unreadable content in {WordDocumentName}

Save the file in RTF (Rich Text Format) file format then save it in Word Document format.
